The International Alliance to support Medical Schools in Gaza (AIMS-G) was established to address the urgent and critical needs of medical education in Gaza as well as to support the medical students and healthcare workers in the rebuilding phase.
The AIMS-G is an initiative conceived and led by Palmed Academy and aims to include membership and support by medical faculties around the world. Palmed Academy is a charity registered in the U.K.

Investing in Lifesavers
The AIMS-G team works closely with Gaza’s two primary medical schools, the Islamic University of Gaza and the Al-Azhar University, to support their recovery efforts and ensure that medical students can continue their education despite the challenges through the Gaza Educate Medics (GEM) initiative.
The GEM initiative’s support has allowed the two medical schools of Gaza to graduate 200 new doctors in Gaza in January 2025, and a batch of nursing students is on track to graduate this summer.
Core Aims
To facilitate the continuation and recovery of academic medical studies for Gaza’s medical students by coordinating global resources through Palmed Academy.

Restore
Disrupted health education in Gaza, medical, dental, and nursing, restored through online lectures, clinical training, and shared resources.

Sustain
Accreditation of Gazan medical, dental and nursing schools.

Provide
Scholarships, learning materials, and psychosocial support for displaced students working with global medical institutions.

Co-create
Educational modules on healthcare in conflict zones, developed with Palestinian medical, dental and nursing students.

Facilitate
Exchange programs, research collaborations, and faculty development.

Promote
Long-term, equitable partnerships with global medical institutions grounded in mutual respect and commitment to academic excellence.
Short-Term Outcomes
- Re-establish interrupted medical education programs for students in Gaza through online platforms, clinical placement and financial support.
- Sustain accreditation for the medical faculties of Al-Azhar University and the Islamic University of Gaza.
- Institute a thematic overview of the courses, assessment, clinical placement provided by a named collaborator university as well as a thematic overview of the online modules, e-libraries and online study material.
- Coordinate the assessment and evaluate the programme by AIMS-G members and the medical faculties of Al-Azhar University and the Islamic University of Gaza.
- Develop educational modules that address the health crisis in Gaza. These modules, co-created with Palestinian medical students, will be offered to universities worldwide to raise awareness and foster discussions about the ongoing healthcare crisis in Gaza.
- Carry out a thematic overview of clinical internship and sponsorship opportunities for Gaza’s medical students outside of Gaza.
- Organize a student welfare programme which provides peer-to-peer support, as well as financial assistance and logistical support to medical students in Gaza.
Long-Term Outcomes

- Build sustainable, long-term and equitable partnerships between Palestinian medical schools and international medical institutions.
- Establish exchange programs and collaborative research opportunities in which medical experts from Palestine share their knowledge with academics from other international medical institutions and vice versa.
- Ensure that the medical education system in Gaza is resilient, sustainable, and equipped to develop, create and sustain future generations of healthcare professionals. This includes the rebuilding of the infrastructure.
- Promote the integration of the Gaza and the health crisis modules into medical curricula globally, highlighting the role of healthcare professionals in conflict zones.

Who can join?
Any medical, dental and nursing university or school, health institution, academic department, or association that supports the advancement of medical, dental and nursing education can become a member of AIMS-G.
By joining or supporting AIMS-G, your institution or network can:
- Share modules or clinical internships.
- Participate in assessment and evaluation.
- Offer scholarships or resources.
- Help build a resilient medical, dental and nursing education system for future generations in Gaza.

WHY IT MATTERS:
Supporting AIMS-G is not only a response to an unprecedented humanitarian crisis — it’s a commitment to equity, global health, and academic solidarity.
Gaza’s health students continue their studies under extreme conditions, demonstrating remarkable resilience. AIMS-G provides a way for the international academic and medical, dental and nursing community to stand beside them, uphold the values of the Hippocratic Oath, and defend the universal right to medical, dental and nursing education.
